A Quick “refashion!”

by Zoe on June 16, 2012

I had to get my silhouette machine out this morning and print and cut some business cards and some labels and part of my husbands father’s day gift! :) I had been eyeing a couple of the downloads in the store… So I bought a few new ones. I am a total sucker for Chevron..  But, who isn’t these days?  The Chevron that I used above was a background. I ungrouped the image and shaded each zigzag differently. Then I regrouped the image so that I could re-size and move it around on the page. I made sure that the register marks were showing so that I could print the image onto some Super soft injet transfer paper.  (I am not compensated in any way by linking to dharmatrading.com) I LOVE this stuff! I only bought a 10 pack the last time in case I wasn’t fond of it…. needless to say.. I WILL be ordering more soon. Like this week! :) I had bought a couple of really cheap ($2.50) tanks (boys and girls because they never have plain white) at Walmart. I ironed on the Chevron transfer, cut the hem off the top and used some scrap Michael Miller Damask interlock knit scraps that I had. I knew that I wanted to gather the knit slightly so I made sure that I used double the width of the shirt by about 6 inches in length. (The Tank is a 4T boys, so I knew that it would be on the long side for my daughter) Using a jersey/ballpoint needle on my sewing machine I ran a gathering stitch around the top of the damask… I gathered it so that it would match the bottom of the shirt. I serged the one side, forming a loop. Then right sides together, I used ball point pins to pin the two together. Ran it through my serger (if you don’t have a serger, you can use your sewing machine, be sure to use a zig zag or the knit (lightening bolt) stitch. I pressed the seam towards the shirt and ran a top stitch around the seam. There was enough room in the dress that I just used a straight stitch…. if it were a fitted dress I would have used my twin stretch needle.

Whew… and she likes it!  Sometimes that in itself is a challenge! :)
